چکیده

Oxidation reactions by radicals constitute a very important class of chemical reactions in solution. Radiation Chemistry methods allow producing, in a controlled way, very reactive oxidizing radicals, such as OH•, CO₃•-, NO₃•, SO₄•-, and N₃•. Although the radical cation of water, H₂O•+, with a very short lifetime (shorter than 1 ps) is the precursor of these radicals in aqueous solutions, its chemistry is usually known to be limited to the reaction of proton transfer by forming OH• radical. Herein, we stress situations where H₂O•+ undergoes electron transfer reaction in competition with proton transfer.

Solvent Effect on Stability and Thermodynamic Behavior of Complex of 18-Crown-6 with Hydroxyl Ammonium Cation

The complexation reaction between hydroxyl ammonium (HONH3+ ) cation with 18-crown-6 (18C6) ligand was studied in dimethylsulfoxide – water (DMSO-H2O), methanol – water (MeOH-H2O) and dimethylformamid – methanol (DMF-MeOH), binary solutions at different temperatures using conductometric method. The obtained results show that the stoichiometry of t...

Ultrafast vibrational spectroscopic studies on the photoionization of the α-tocopherol analogue trolox C.

The initial events after photoexcitation and photoionization of α-tocopherol (vitamin E) and the analogue Trolox C have been studied by femtosecond stimulated Raman spectroscopy, transient absorption spectroscopy and time-resolved infrared spectroscopy. Using these techniques it was possible to follow the formation and decay of the excited state, neutral and radical cation radicals and the hydr...

Cation effects on rotational dynamics of anions and water molecules in alkali (Li+, Na+, K+, Cs+) thiocyanate (SCN-) aqueous solutions.

Waiting time dependent rotational anisotropies of SCN(-) anions and water molecules in alkali thiocyanate (XSCN, X = Li, Na, K, Cs) aqueous solutions at various concentrations were measured with ultrafast infrared spectroscopy. It was found that cations can significantly affect the reorientational motions of both water molecules and SCN(-) anions. The dynamics are slower in a solution with a sm...

Ultrafast spectroscopy: ejecting electrons from water.

T he hydrated electron, an electron in aqueous solution, has captured the attention of scientists since it was discovered in 1962 as a product of water radiolysis 1. Many properties of the hydrated electron are consistent with the 'cavity' model, in which it resides in a non-spherical solvent cavity with an average radius of ~2.4 Å and is stabilized by hydrogen-bonding interactions with, on ave...

Removal of Lead Ions from Aqueous Solution by Sorptive-Flotation Using Limestone and Oleic Acid

A simple, rapid and economic procedure was presented to remove lead(II) from aqueous solution under the optimized conditions. It is based on the sorption of Pb2+ ions from aqueous solutions onto limestone fines (LS), which is an inexpensive and widespread over the globe, followed by flotation with oleic acid (HOL) surfactant. The different parameters (namely: solution pH, sorbent...
